WHEREAS, Most workers simply don’t believe that handing over 1% to 2% of their wages in mandatory union dues is worth what they get from union membership.
WHEREAS, A 2002 study by the Bureau of National Affairs found that, after adjusting for cost-of-living, private sector workers in the 10 least unionized states earned $1,600 more annually than workers in the 10 most heavily unionized states.
WHEREAS, Between 1992 and 2002, the less unionized states generated twice as many desirable jobs – with better benefits – than unionized states. Unions are losing members because these days most employees don’t see the benefit of belonging to a union. But instead of improving the benefits of membership, the unions have decided to FORCE workers to become members!
WHEREAS, The card check bill – the Employee Free-Choice Act (EFCA) – will also increase penalties for employers, but not for unions or others, who violate union-organizing laws...while allowing Big Labor to do away with secret ballot elections required to form a union, while keeping them for when workers want to remove an existing union.
THEREFORE, We the undersigned urge Congress to oppose Card Check and vote no on the so-called "Employee Free Choice Act."
